Holiday credit card tips
Here are some tips on how to how to maximize the value of your credit card during the holiday season.
Wherever possible, use your Servus MasterCard to make your purchases. The insurances, the chargeback feature, the convenience, and the rewards make it a better choice than other payment methods.
Purchase Protection: Most Servus MasterCards provide "Purchase Assurance," which pays to replace or repair items lost, stolen, or damaged within 90 days of purchase. Keep your receipts! Your purchases are insured.
Ordering online? Relax. If your purchase is lost, stolen, or damaged, a simple call to the 1-800 number on the back of the card will get your reimbursement started.
Extended Warranty: MasterCard doubles any Canadian manufacturer's warranty to double up to two years beyond the date the original expires. Save money on appliances and electronics.
Arbitration: If a product or service you purchased was never delivered, the credit card chargeback feature will return your money to you. No lawyer required.
Interest Free Loan: If you pay your bill in full every month, you're essentially getting an interest-free loan on every purchase you charge.
Safety: Zero liability. If your credit card is stolen or compromised, any purchases made fraudulently, will be discredited. Simply call 1-800-LOST-111 if your card is missing. You may be without a card for a few days, but there is minimal violation on your personal information.
Rewards, rewards, rewards: With every purchase you make, you earn rewards for more merchandise, travel, gift giving, or charitable donations.
Know how much you are spending on your credit card
You'll save yourself money and a major headache if you know what you are spending and how you are going to pay for it. This will give you a good sense of whether or not you have enough to pay your bill on time, avoid late fees, and a bump up in interest rates.
Save money in advance, create a budget, and pay your bill in full before the due date. This is the recipe for success when it comes to holiday spending.
Can’t cover the balance in full? Pay the full amount with your authorized overdraft protection or line of credit. Their interest rates are much lower than those on your credit cards.
Happy holiday shopping!
